Sunday Hot Bread

(from Grandma Bauer)

3/4 cup sugar
2 Tbs. butter
1/4 tsp. salt
1 egg
2/3 cup milk
1 1/2 cup flour
3 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. lemon extract (or vanilla)
brown sugar and cinnamon

Cream sugar, butter, and salt. Add egg, beaten and mixed with milk and extract. Add flour and baking powder. Pour into a greased 9”x13”x2” baking pan. Sprinkle with brown sugar and cinnamon. Bake at 400°F for 20 to 25 minutes.

Ellen found this recipe in Mom's recipe box when she was about thirteen years old and asked about it. "Oh, that's an old recipe from your Grandma Bauer" Ellen recalls Mom telling her. Ellen looked it over and decided it looked easy and good, so she made it for the family a few times.
