"Mom, what's for d-e-s-s-e-r-t?" the older kids would ask, careful to spell it out so the little kids wouldn't hear the word and stop eating the healthy stuff and start clamoring for dessert. But eventually they caught on to the spelling trick.
This chapter is filled with all those recipes, some still in use today. It wouldn't be Thanksgiving without Mom's Apple Pie. Vacations at the Thousand Islands wouldn't be the same without Mom's Strawberry Rhubarb Pie (two of them, at least - "Mom, please hurry"). And Paul still asks for Cheesecake for his birthday all these decades later.
