The handful of recipes in this chapter got passed down the generations by word of mouth and by demonstration. It’s doubtful any were ever written down. No measurements, cooking times, or methods survive, even if they were once in one of our ancestors' heads. In other words, the "directions" for these recipes are rather loose. We've tried to recreate the directions as best we could.
A few recipes placed in other chapters of this collection might feel comfortable here as well – Dad’s Turkey Soup, Gugel “Goulash”, Grandpa Bauer’s Beef Noodle Soup, Sunday Hot Bread, Vi Thompson’s Lima Bean Casserole, and Bread Pudding (Old-fashioned).
